My little contribution to the world wide web of woodworking

Fitness

As a part of my quest to improve my general fitness, I have started putting together some basic pieces of home-made equipment to keep things interesting.

parallettes.jpg The first thing I made was a pair of parallettes, which are made out of PVC pipe. These are very simple to make, but turn out to be a great piece of equipment for basic gymnastics. I may post some details about these later…
IMG_9092.jpg I also made some rings out of plywood. See my gymnastics rings page for details about how they’re made.

My next fitness-related project will probably be one or two plyo boxes.

For my own convenience, I maintain an online workout log using Google spreadsheets. It’s a great way to maintain a log that I always have access to wherever I can get to a computer. For those who may be interested for some reason, I maintain an online workout log here as well.

I have never seen wooden paralletes, but it certainly could be done…. wouldn’t be any easier to use, though! ;)

Fill them with Epoxy Granite 18% Epoxy and playsand with a piece of rebar.

For wooden parallettes, we’ve used a closet rod cut to about 3 ft long. The stands are some left over 4×4 wood we had in the garage. We used a couple of clamps and screws to keep the bar from spinning. Very simple and sturdy. The closet bar has a bit of give on it similar to the real parallel bars.

Hi Paul. Those look great! Can you make me a pair out of baltic birch?
