I wasn’t sure if the dowel was handled differently during glue up. I am refinishing a peice and took it apart , it had dowels thru the tenon – oddly enough I found new glue on many of the dowels – thus I wondered if glue was handled differently – guess not – ur aricle was very helpful. thx

I had never thought of “blind drawboring”. All of the projects I have drawbored including my french style workbench I have drilled all the way through the work piece so that the dowel can fully penetrate both sides of the mortised piece. I never have to worry about damaging the back side of the mortised piece and find the contrast of the dowel end grain interesting. However for instances where the presence of a dowel would detract I’ll have to keep this technique in mind.
